AUDIO ENGINEERING SOUND PRODUCTION
The Audio Engineering / Sound Production program equips students with the fundamental skills and knowledge to enter into every career path in the audio industry. Whether the student is interested in live music sound, recording studio, film and television sound or theatre sound, CCAT has the bases covered.
At CCATs Hawthorn campus we have a large auditorium with a full concert PA and lighting system installed. This makes us one of the few Colleges in Australia that can train Audio Engineering / Sound Production students in live sound reinforcement with a large concert system on campus in a controlled class environment.
Attached to the auditorium are a number of state-of-the-art recording studios and control rooms. In particular, the main control room is equipped with a fully automated digital console, hard disk recording facilities, 5.1 surround monitoring and a plethora of outboard equipment for capturing live performances on tape.
The auditorium has a host of regular live performances by touring acts as well as theatrical performances by the drama course students. This variety of performances gives students in the Audio Engineering / Sound Production program plenty of opportunity to gain hands on practical experience in a number of possible career areas from mixing in the live environment of either theatre or music, to recording these live performances in full 5.1 surround sound and synchronising it to vision.
There are also four other Audio Engineering / Sound Production studios available for student use on campus and a number of fully equipped computer labs for students to receive individual hands on training with the latest hard disk recording software packages.
The main strength we feel in all CCAT programs is the coordination of project work between the multiple streams. Audio Engineering / Sound Production students work on a collaborative basis together with Film and Television Production, Drama, Dance, Music Performance, Multimedia students on any number of projects from short films to animated cartoons.
This type of experience not only provides a great opportunity for students in all streams to develop networks for future professional projects, but also to build up a folio of work to assist in the development of new future networks and career opportunities. |
